Khalid b. Abdullah al-Azhari and his work titled Mûsıltü't-Tullâb ilâ Kavâidi'l-İ'râb

Khalid b. Abdullah al-Azhari (d. 905/1499) who grew up in Egypt during which the Mamelukes were ruling had become one of the leaders of the time although his scientific works started in his later ages. His teaching activities conducted in the Al-Azhar University as well as the pure, easily apprehensible works on the field of syntax are clear evidences of his scientific competence. Mûsılü't-Tullâb ilâ Kavâ'idi'l-İ'râb, among the important explanations of el-İ'râb an Kavâ'idi'l-i'râb' of Ibn Hişam en-Nahvi (d. 761/1360) is a significant work of al-Azhari on syntax. Introducing the work and the author based on this explanation is considered to contribute to determine the position of al-Azhari in the Arabian language. In this regard, this study focusing on Khalid al-Azhari and Mûsılü't-Tullâb ilâ Kavâ'idi'l-İ'râb consists of one introduction and other three parts. The introduction part gives the subject, purpose and method of the study. Then the first part includes the author of the relevant work and his life, lecturers, students and works were mentioned. In the second part, el-İ'râb an Kavâ'idi'l-i'râb was examined since it constitutes the main text of Mûsılü't-Tullâb, and then a general definition of Mûsılü't-Tullâb was made and its significance was stressed out. Besides, the resources al-Azhari used in compiling the work were determined and references were introduced based on the issue. Finally, in the third part the method which was preferred by al-Azhari in his work was tried to be revealed and means of providing the opinions within the work were evaluated and al-Azhari's opinions were discussed.
