Özet (EN)

Adjectives are grammatical elements that determine the quantitative and qualitative aspects of entities, enhancing the expressive power of Turkish and adding depth to texts. This thesis aims to identify and analyze the adjectives used in Kalp Ağrısı by Halide Edip Adıvar, to present examples of their use, and to provide data that may contribute to grammar instruction. The study consists of seven chapters. The first introduces Halide Edip Adıvar's life, works, and a summary of Kalp Ağrısı. The analysis begins in the second chapter, which focuses on the origin of adjectives; the third examines their structure; the fourth their function; the fifth comparison and degree; and the sixth diminutive and intensifying forms. In the seventh chapter, which is the conclusion, discussions and recommendations, the findings were evaluated with a qualitative approach based on content analysis and some of them were shown with graphics and various suggestions were made. The thesis also reviews definitions and classifications of adjectives proposed by linguists, along with previous studies on the topic, all cited in the relevant sections. The analysis reveals that qualifying adjectives occur more frequently than determinative adjectives. Among the latter, demonstrative, numeral, and indefinite adjectives are used most often. The study is based on the 7th edition (2015) of Kalp Ağrısı, published by Can Yayınları, with page and line references provided throughout. It is expected that this study will contribute to researchers seeking to develop text-based approaches to grammar teaching and to future investigations into the use of adjectives in Turkish.
