The structure and theme in Halide Edip Adıvar's novels

Abstract (EN)

Halide Edip Adıvar has a significant place in Republic Period Turkish Literature with the works she wrote. In this study, the novelist side of Adıvar who is known especially by her survey writings, translations, memoirs, stories, dramas and novels was handled within extensive dimensions.In the first part of the study, arranged in three main sections that has the quality of ?Monography?, some knowledge about the life, literary character and works of the writer was given. In the second part which constitutes the basic of the study, Adıvar?s twenty one novels were examined in respect to structure and theme by classifying them into three main titles as ?Novels of Individual and Psychological Theme, Novels of the Theme of Re-Foundation and Independence War and Novels of Norm and Social Theme?. While the structural and thematic construction of the novels were being examined in the second part, some conducive disciplines such as history, sociology, philosophy, psychology, linguistics, structuralism and semiotics beyond novel theory were employed. Thus, the modes of being read and interpreted of the novels in the process of their coming from the date of their arrival to today was revealed. In the third part, language using and her style being formed according to the intention in Adıvar?s novels were depicted through choosing examples of word and sentence. In the conclusion, after the levels of her novel-writing was handled, an extensive bibliography that enlightens the writer?s novelist aspect was given.Key Words: Halide Edip Adıvar, novel, love/affection, woman, self, alienation, otherness, East-West conflict, corruption.
