Abstract (EN)
The term war of liberation is mainly composed of two important periods; in other words, the process of liberation war consist of two main areas. The fırst phase is the armed struggle of the occupants of the Turkish homeland (Anatolia) of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the Turkish nation, who have believed in it. The second phase is the intellectual legal economic moral and scientific lagacy given to the people who are to fall from ignorance and poverty. This struggle is one of the turning points of Turkish history. This issue has been handled by Turkish novelists before an after tha republic due to its importance. Especially novels written between 1923 – 1938 have a special importance; because the period between 1923 – 1938 is important from political and literary pain. The main purpose for this suruey is to determine the opinios of teachers about the usage of historical novels written by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu and Halide Edip Adıvar in teaching the war of liberation at Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution lessons at secondary scholl education. The survey has been carried out in accordance with qualitative methods using the approach of moltisituational study. At the first step of multisituational study, the nevels written by Halide Edip Adıvar and Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu have been handled in respect of the way that has been in the war of liberation. As a second step, using a survey for maximum density, there have meeting with 40 history teachers from 16 schools in total in different socioeconomical neighbourhoods in Söke and Aydın that have been chosen in advance. The data of the survey, the documents (the novels) and the half – structured meeting forms have been obtained. The data obtained has been sorted out using descriptive and content analysis after a document analysis. As a last step of the survey, in the novels written by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu and Halide Edip Adıvar the way that has been in the war of liberation has been singled out and more than the half of the participant teachers have indicated that they have made the use of the novels written by Halide Edip Adıvar and Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu in teaching the themes of the war of independence at Atatürk's principles and history of revolution lessons. In addition to that, at the end of the survey, it is clear that the participant history teachers have been considering that historical novels have had positive effects on students in respect of making them love the lesson, awaken the curiosity, trigger the research cravity, develop empathy skills.
