Abstract (EN)

In this study we deal with the education activities of Halkevleri in between1932-1940 years.From the past to today, the informal education brought in enormousimportance for progressing of the societies. The young Turkish Republic replaced theOttoman Empire with collapse of it. Social changing process gained greatacceleration with foundation of the Republic. At this changing duration, manyrevolutions were done. Acceptance and adoption to improvements were not so easy.In this process, education of society, expressing reforms to public needed. Economicdeficiency, tools and equipment insufficiency negatively effected these works.Despite of all these negative effects the Turkish Republic gave great deal ofimportance to the educational services.Halkevleri opened by Atatürk in 1932, in order to express the revolutions topublic better and to eliminate the gap between ordinary people and intellectuals.Halkevleri aimed the people who outside of formal education or the people whounable to take advantage of formal education. If we consider circumstances of thatera, it can be seen that Halkevleri would have served public education activities togreat portion of society. Because the both negativeness of circumstances andalphabet revolution lead to absolute necessity of giving this education to everybody.Despite of many negativenesses, Halkevleri continued educational activitiessuccessfully. In order to organize the educational activities better, it carried out thestudies in nine branches. It reached peoples at province centers by Halkevleri, atsmall settlements by Halkodaları. Massive critism have been made to Halkevlericomes from sensing the great influence of CHP over activities of it.
