Abstract (EN)
In this thesis, what kind of activities they carried out in the field of publishing and librarianship from the establishment of the People's Hosuses until 1951, when they were closed, and the contributions of the journals and libraries of the People's Hosuses to Turkish publishing life and librarianship were evaluated. With the War of Independence, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades carried out a unique movement with a populist character, aimed at national sovereignty and full independence. A popular method was determined in order to adopt and spread the post-war reforms to the people. People's Houses emerged as a natural result of this understanding. People's Houses, the breakthrough made in relation to the issue of populism for 19 years, from February 19, 1932 to 1951, developed very rapidly. It has been an institution of Turkish culture and enlightenment character by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk himself. Despite the difficult conditions of the period, People's Houses made great contributions to Turkish culture by providing services in the field of publishing and librarianship. People's Houses magazines stand out in their activities related to publication. People's Houses magazines contributed to the adoption of the reforms and the development of the history, culture, literature, agriculture and folklore of the region in which they were published. People's Houses libraries aimed to raise a responsible and knowledgeable reader community and they were successful in this. Libraries have been places where students find reference sources for their lessons, where the public gains reading habits and where they study and read books in their spare time.
