People's perceptions of risk, uncertainty of benefit and knowledge levels related to nuclear power plants example of Iğdır province

Over the years, with the extraordinary developments in industry and industry, the increasing human population has increased the demand for energy, as well as the necessity to use energy resources effectively and to find and use new energy sources with high efficiency and disadvantages such as nuclear energy. Literature studies on nuclear power plants, which should be used by considering the pros and cons; (MNS) shows that it poses a lot of risk due to the fact that it is built with primitive technology, the necessary preventive measures are not taken adequately and the waste management is not done correctly. In this study, a questionnaire containing demographic data, 10 yes no questions and 26 questions prepared with a 5-point Likert scale was applied to 400 people in order to determine the risk, benefit, uncertainty perceptions and knowledge levels of individuals living at risk in Iğdır Province. As a result; It was determined that the participants did not have sufficient information about nuclear power plants, their possible risks and benefits, they did not attend the necessary trainings (79.2%), their anxiety levels were high (72.4%), and 89.4% of them thought that nuclear power plant accidents would cause chaos. As a result of these findings, it is predicted that the level of anxiety and confusion can be reduced by providing more information to the public, increasing the knowledge and awareness by ensuring the participation of the institutions as well as the institutions, and knowing what to do in a possible accident.
