Determining households' attitudes and perceptions towards foodwaste: The case of Şanlıurfa

This research; It is being prepared to examine the factors affecting the attitudes and behaviors of consumers living in Şanlurfa province towards preventing food waste. Determining food waste and losses is of great importance for the continuation of human life. In this study, after the issues of food waste and losses are defined in general, the subject will be examined in a study to be conducted specifically in Şanlıurfa province; It will be revealed through an applied research and the attitudes and behaviors of consumers will be examined. Two groups of materials will be used in this study. The first will consist of data obtained through mutual interviews with consumers living in Şanlıurfa province. Survey studies will be carried out with consumers residing in Karaköprü, Haliliye and Eyyübiye districts. In the second group of materials, data and findings obtained from research reports and articles will be used. In the analysis of the collected data, first the demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the consumers were revealed, and then their attitudes and behaviors regarding food waste prevention were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, we combine various different expressions; Factor analysis was applied to reveal a new expression. Various analyzes were used to investigate whether the new factors had an impact on food waste. According to the research results, 67.90% of the consumers are women and 32.10% are men. A significant relationship was found between the new factors created by Factor Analysis and food waste. The issue of food waste becomes important in terms of raising awareness both economically and culturally, as well as developing methods and policies to reduce and prevent waste. This study can make significant contributions to future studies by revealing consumers' awareness, attitudes and behaviors regarding food waste in the household and providing data to be used in developing suggestions in terms of reducing and preventing waste.
