Map reproduction

The reproduction of maps - oldest way of human communication - has saved its progress dynamic in whole terms of historical development. In this term of development, map reproduction has set different phases and alternations. Along with the improvement in technology, printing methods have become more specific in order to get the most efficient results in printing process. In this thesis, not only having competency in map reproduction, but also having adequate printing knowledge is acquired to have the best result in map reproduction is shown. In the printing term of a map, steps should be applied to the project in right order with proficiency, such as; planning, editing, choosing the appropriate printing method and general competency in printing. Otherwise, the unexpected details can cause irrecoverable results on the imprint issue. In order to get the best result, sufficient knowledge on map reproduction and printing is required. This thesis deals with phases among preparing the original first draft of the map and getting the map reproduced with the most accurate printing method. In the apllication of this study, original map of the YTU Yildiz Campus is prepared and printed by using two different printing methods. This study consists of five chapters. In chapter one, an introduction part is given. In chapter two, the features of maps and the demand on map printing are given in details. In chapter three, the printing methods are given. Chapter four is the application chapter. This chapter gives information abot the whole process about the application. Chapter five is the conclusion chapter.
