UAV/AUAV flight plan preparation with map optimization methods

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the route generation process, one of the important elements of flight operations, has been calculated by using map optimization methods. The steps of preparing a flight plan, which is mandatory according to national and international authorities, have been explained. Using world air route maps with complex road structures, the most efficient and effective way of optimizing a flight plan for different levels and areas has been proposed. The prediction power of the developed approach has been evaluated. Considering the criteria necessary to produce reliable flight plan predictions, the developed approach has been applied to the past flight data of the aviation companies operating in Turkey is made use of. When it is taken account that most of the constraints and rules which are to be taken care of while flight plan is taken in the civil aviation are used in military aviation, with this model, flight planning of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle's (UAV) which increases in the number of day by day in our fleets of Turkish Air Forces and is also vital for our country is told. Since many of the restrictions and rules that need to be taken into account when preparing a civil aviation flight plan are also used in military aviation, the developed software has also been integrated with a wind restriction module based on the limitations of aircraft. After taking all of these parameters and restrictions into account, the results of the developed software have been evaluated.
