Investıgatıon of lower pliocene age pyroclastıc rocks in the northeast of Harput (Elazığ)

This work investigates the old pyroclastic rocks at the north of the Harput. The area ofinterest lies from northeast of Harput to the Keban dam, lake.The rock units in the studied area (from the oldest to the youngest) are, Elazığ Magmatics(Cenonian), Harami Formation (Maestrihtiyen ), Kırkgeçit Formation (Middle-Upper Eocene),Elazığ Volcanics (Lower Pliocene ). In the study area, the Elazığ Magmatics is represented bygranite, gabro, diabase, basalts.The Kırkgeçit Formation which unconformably covers the Elazığ Magmatics, consist ofconglomerate, sandstone, massive limestone, massive sandstone and marn.The Elazığ Volcanics that covers unconformably the older units consist of lava flows andpyroclastics.Elazığ Volcanics (Harput) pyroclastics that is investigated in this study can be used in(production of) mixed cement as an admixture at the ratios of 30 % up to 40 %Keywords: Elazığ Volcanics, Pyroclastic, tüff, scoria, cement,
