Abstract (EN)

The tradition of şerh (commentary) occupies a vital role in classical Turkish literature, particularly in elucidating texts composed in Arabic and Persian. Arising from the need to interpret such works, this tradition has produced extensive commentarial literature. A leading figure of the Sebk-i Hindî style, Sâ'ib-i Tabrîzî crafted his poetry with elaborate imagery, imagination, and complex expression, rendering his Dîvân a frequent subject of scholarly exegesis. Ebubekir Nusret Efendi authored three distinct commentaries on the Dîvân, focusing on ghazals with elif, tâ, and various other rhymes. This thesis offers a critical edition and analysis of folios 1b–50a of the tâ-rhymed ghazals in Nusret Efendi's commentary, transcribed into Latin script. It further presents comprehensive information on the lives, literary identities, and works of both Sâ'ib-i Tabrîzî and Ebubekir Nusret Efendi. The study also reviews the concept of şerh, surveys previous commentaries on Sâ'ib's Dîvân, and assesses orthographic features and intertextual references under the section titled "Method of Commentary." Among eleven known manuscript copies of the tâ commentary, five are housed abroad; this edition is based primarily on the copies preserved in the Istanbul University Library (Ty. 4223) and the Süleymaniye Library, Halet Efendi Collection (No. 714). The study aims to contribute to the corpus of research on Sâ'ib-i Tabrîzî's Dîvân. Keywords: Commentator, Commentary, Nusret Efendi, Sâ'ib-i Tebrîzî
