Patient administered questionnaire-hip and patient administered questionnaire-KNEE Turkish version, validity and reliability

This study aims to adapt the Patient-Administered Questionnaire- Hip (PAQ-Hip) and Patient-Administered Questionnaire- Knee (PAQ-Knee) developed to evaluate physical and psychological symptoms frequently seen in patients with hip or knee problems, and to test their validity and reliability. 65 coxarthrosis patients were included in the study for PAQ- Hip, and 103 gonarthrosis patients were evaluated for PAQ-Knee. The questionnaires were translated and adapted to Turkish. The socio-demographic information of patients was collected, and they were administered the PAQ-Hip and PAQ-Knee. Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) was used for validity. The severity of Osteoarthritis was assessed by Kellgren-Lawrence grading system. The questionnaires were administered to the patients at an interval of 2-4 days to evaluate PAQ-Hip and PAQ-Knee for test-retest reliability. p≤0.05 was accepted significant. PASW (SPSS, ver.18) package software was used for calculation. The questionnaires were analyzed for test-retest reliability using Intraclass r. Coefficient of concordance for PAQ-Hip and PAQ-Knee were found to be 0.963 (p<0.0001) and 0.939 (p<0.0001), respectively. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was used for internal consistency. The two measurements provided scores of 0.484 and 0.460 for PAQ-Hip, and 0.673 and 0.703 for PAQ-Knee, respectively. WOMAC total scores and sub-dimensional correlations were evaluated for the validity of the questionnaires. No relation was found between WOMAC stiffness sub score and PAQ-Hip test and retest total scores (p>0.05). PAQ-Hip and PAQ-Knee was found to be significantly correlated with WOMAC total score as well as all other sub-dimensions, and was found to have criterion-related validity (p≤0.05). The findings suggest that PAQ-Hip and PAQ-Knee are valid and reliable questionnaires.
