The Effect of patients' perceived social support on life satisfaction: The Mediatory effect of anxiety-depression and psychological resilience

This research is carried out to determine the simple and serial mediation effects of anxiety-depression and psychological resilience on the effect of multidimensional perceived social support on life satisfaction. The population of the research consists of people over the age of 18 who applied to Yozgat Sorgun State Hospital polyclinics. At the time of the research, an average of 1300 daily and 30,000 monthly patients received outpatient clinic services from this hospital. In this case, the sample size of the study was calculated as 380 with a 95% confidence level and 5% error. The number of people reached in this research is 410, and it can be said that the determined sample size has been reached. Likert type, 4 scales were used in the study. The data collection tool was applied between 01 July and 01 November 2023. Process Macro analysis, based on the bootstrap confidence interval, was used to determine the direct, indirect and total effects between the variables. In the bootstrap technique, 5000 resamplings and a 95% confidence interval were preferred. Model 4 and Model 6 from Process Macro software were used in simple and serial mediation analysis. According to the simple mediation (Model 4) analysis results, the effect of multidimensional perceived social support on life satisfaction was affected by anxiety-depression [= .048 95% CI (.021; .081)] and psychological resilience [= .009 95% CI (.008; . 029)] was found to mediate. According to the serial mediation (Model 6) analysis results, it was determined that anxiety-depression and psychological resilience had a serial mediation effect [= .007 95% CI (.004; .022)] on the effect of multidimensional perceived social support on life satisfaction. According to the mediation analysis results, indirect effect 1 (ÇBASD->AD->YD); indirect effect 2 (ÇBASD->PS ->YD) and indirect effect 3 (serial mediation effect; ÇBASD->HAD->PS->YD) and indirect effect 3 has a significantly higher mediation effect than indirect effect 2. has. In the serial mediation analysis, it was also determined that multidimensional perceived social support affected life satisfaction positively-significantly and anxiety-depression negatively-significantly, anxiety-depression negatively-significantly affected psychological resilience and life satisfaction, and psychological resilience positively-significantly affected life satisfaction. It can be said that in order to increase individuals' life satisfaction, it is necessary to increase social support and psychological resilience, but to decrease anxiety and depression.
