Comfort levels of patients at early postoperative period

The aim of this study was to determine the comfort levels of patients undergoing surgical procedures in the early postoperative period. The study was carried out in the orthopedics, urology, ENT, general surgery 1, general surgery 2, brain surgery and plastic surgery clinics of Balcalı Hospital of Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine; 157 patients hospitalized in these clinics, meeting the research criteria and accepting participation were included. 'Personal Information Form' was used for data collection, 'Visual Benchmarking Scale' for pain assessment, and 'Early Postoperative Comfort Questionnaire' to determine comfort level. In the evaluation of the data, frequency and percentage calculation were used for descriptive statistics, independent samples t test was used for data showing normal distribution, and Kruskal Wallis test was used for data that did not show normal distribution. As a result of the study, the mean age of the patients was 47.57 ± 18.96, 52.9% were male, 63.7% were married, 33.8% were secondary school graduates, 73.9% were not working, 66.2 of them were found to be equivalent to the monthly income. Clinical features of the patients; 26.1% had general surgery and 9.6 had orthopedic surgery; 60.5% had no chronic disease, 43.9% had continuous medication, 73.2% had experienced a previous surgical procedure, 49% had ASA 1, 63.7% It is seen that the surgical procedure lasted about 1 hour. It was determined that 33.1% of the individuals who experienced pain had mild pain and 23.6% had no pain. It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of EPCQ according to the patients 'regular drug use and pain levels. The mean scores of the patients who used regular medication and those who had no pain or mild pain were higher than the other groups (p <0.05). As a result, the comfort of the patients is affected at different levels depending on the effect of the surgical process and clinical history.
