Antibiotic resistance profiles of bacteria isolated from hospital environment and evaluation of use potentials of different antimicrobial substances in the control of these bacteria

Abstract (EN)

Nosocomial infections are one of the biggest health problems that threaten the health system. Environmental cleaning and disinfection is frequently performed in order to prevent hospital infections. However, it is reported that bacterial pathogens resistant to antibiotics and disinfectants increase rapidly as a result of misuse of antimicrobials. In this context, identification, antibiotic resistance profiles and susceptibility to different antimicrobials (C10H16O, thyme oil, C10H8N2O2S2Zn, C16H10MgO10) of bacteria isolated from the hospital environment were investigated in this study. Bacteria were isolated from the hospital environment and identified with VITEK. Antibiotic resistance profiles with disc diffusion technique and inhibition activities of different antimicrobials with agar well diffusion technique were tested. As a result of the test, the isolates were identified as 13% Staphylococcus hominis, 13.0% S. sciuri, 27.0% S. haemolyticus, 7.0% S. warneri, 13.0% Escherichia vulneris, 7,0% Sphingomonas paucimobilis, 7,0% Kocuria cristinae, and 13.0% Micrococcus sp. It is seen that 10% of the isolates developed resistance to the tested antibiotics and 74% of the isolates were susceptible. In addition, sensitivity rates of alternative disinfectants were determined as ZnPt > T > TO > MMPP. It has been observed that bacterial isolates are highly sensitive to ZnPt. It has been observed that disinfectants containing ZnPt (0.1%) can be used in the fight against nosocomial infections.
