Abstract (EN)

Background: Objective of this study was to compare whether there was any difference in length of stay, cost of treatment and treatment outcome in patients who were treated according to 2009 Turkish Thoracic Society Guide of Diagnosis and Treatment of Community Acquired Pneumonia in adults(TTSCAPG).Material and Methods: In this study, patients with community-acquired pneumonia were included between November 2010 through November 2011 in the DEUMF Hospital. Their demographic characteristics, symptoms, physical examination, laboratory data, radiological data, CURB-65 and PSI scores, medical treatment, lenght of stay and cost of treatment were entered into TTS pneumonia database. Cases were examined about their accordance with TTSCAPG.Results: In this study , 156 patients with community-acquired pneumonia were included. 42.3% were women, 57.7% were men. Mean age was 70.4 years. The initial symptoms were cough 94.9%, sputum 77.6% and fever58%. The most common diseases were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (29.5%), astma (3.2%), lung cancer (8.3%), cardiovascular disease (32.7%) and diabetes mellitus (12.8%). 67.3% of the patients were treated according to the guideline.When we discussed the groups which were treated in accordance with the guideline; there was not a difference between gender and symptoms. The patients which were treated according to the guideline, mean age was higher and they had COPD commonly. Also their PSI and CURB-65 scores were higher and their mortality rates were 8%.The patients which were treated according to the guideline, were examined; when we discussed the groups which were given combination therapy or fluorokinolon; there was not a statistically difference in terms of age, diseases, PSI and CURB-65 scores, length of stay, cost of treatment.Conclusion: There was not a difference in length of stay, cost of treatment and treatment outcome in patients who were treated according to 2009 TTSCAPG.
