Abstract (EN)

Although Khatībzâde Muhyi al-Dīn Mahmad (d. 901/1496), one of the most important names of Ottoman thought, wrote some works in basic Islamic sciences such as fiqh and tafsir, the most important area he emphasized is theology (kalām). Known for his sharp intelligence and critical personality, Khatībzâde stands out with these features in the treatise of kalām and ru'yatullah, which we examined in the thesis. In his work, which is mostly written as a gloss on al-Sayyid al-Sherīf al-Jurjānī's work named Sharh al-Mawākıf, Khatībzâde generally follows the Ahl al-Sunnah tradition in terms of the thoughts of kalām and ru'yatullah. However, it is seen that he put forward some unique views when the details of issues are taken into account. Among them, the definition of kalam which as a result of his research on the essence of the attribute of kalam and the different approaches he brought about the impossibility of attributing lies to God are noteworthy. It should also be emphasized that he tried to make a distinction between the authentic evidences and weak evidences with the philosophical objections or responses he expressed. This attitude can undoubtedly be seen as the continuation of the investigation process that started before it. In this thesis, the views of Khatībzâde on God's attribute of kalām and ru'yatullah, in particular for his work named Risāleh fī Mabāhis al-Ru'ya ve al-Kalām, are examined.
