Arial photography metadatabase and presentation via internet

ABSTRACTToday?s internet technologies present real opportunities to the databases that have alreadybeen constructed or will be constructed. Independent data production and the absence of acommon standard for data exchange and sharing restrict the opportunities of internet anddatabase technologies and permit unnecessary collection of repeated data by differentorganizations. The need for data and data source definition, through data sharing andintegration has an importance which is increasing day by day. This is revealed by themetadata concept.In this study; keeping the metadata information - which is constructed for defining andkeeping the data ready to use to help the users whether if it will be useful for them or not - indatabase and presenting it by internet and intranet environment are investigated. Applicationsare designed in order to make queries from the database of the metadata information whichare determined by the dynamic map presentation method. This is one of the map presentationmethods and is web based in a supply and demand structure.The aerial photographs in raster format are coordinated so as to be used with geographicaldata. Aerial photographs with coordinates are projected over the footing by the codes writtenin ASPMAP. Metadatabase is constructed by using MySQL database for keeping metadatainformation.This study consists of seven chapters.The first chapter is the introduction and the aim of the study is expressed.Chapter two gives a brief explanation is made about information systems, database and webbased systems.Chapter three the definition and importance of the metadata concept is investigated and theuses and standards of the metadata are expressed.Chapter four describes the metadata concept is dealt with from the GIS point of view. Themetadata application through the GIS process is also described.Chapter five describes the classification of geographical metadata is made and the elements ofthe geographical metadata are introduced.Chapter six describes the applications.
