Current situation of air cargo transportation in Turkey and necessities to be done for improvement

With evolving technology and the globalization of the world, air cargo transportation has been attaining critical importance and increasing the portion in the economy with respect to the other types of transportation. While air cargo transportation in our country is affected from the worldwide advances, it is not satisfactorily improved as considering its substantial potential. Not only legal regulations and bureaucratic issues but also physical deficiencies and sector-specific problems causes decelaration in improvement of air cargo in Turkey. The obstacles, slowing down the improvement of the sector, can be eliminated by analyzing, diagnozing and defining the mentioned problems and proposing suitable solutions.In this thesis, air cargo transportation is examined in general and related progress and innovations are mentioned. The problems in this sector inspected by considering the related literature. The evolution of the sector in our country, the global stand, present situation and the improvement potential are theoretically evaluated. In the application stage of the thesis, interviews are taken with the managers of the air cargo companies. By this way, the problems are determined and some ideas are received about solutions. As the results of this study, infrastructure deficiencies, regulations, custom processes and lack of qualified staff are come into prominence as the drawbacks of the improvement of the air cargo transportation in Turkey. It is also deduced that the expensiveness in the fuel costs, equipment deficiencies, terror, economical crisis, bilateral aggrements, quotas, and the limitation of the variety of fleets causes decelaration in the improvements of the air cargo carriers.
