Abstract (EN)

In this study; the effect of stone mastic asphalt used as wearing surface on airport runways on strength was tried to be determined by Marshall Method. The gradations used in the study were determined within the limits specified in the Karayolları Teknik Şartnamesi (Highway Technical Specifications). In the study, the lower limit of the specification, the upper limit, the averages of the limits, different rock types in the same gradation, mixture gradations of different rock types were prepared and comparisons were made by calculating stability, yielding, air gap, inter-aggregate voids, bitumen-filled void ratio, briquette densities by Marshall Method. In addition, aggregate and bitumen foundation tests were performed and their properties were determined. Basalt was used as the main material in the study, and limestone was used as filler material in the mixture gradations. In the experiments, it was observed that the stability values determined for the bituminous hot mix wearing surface were reached in some mixtures, the basalt material gave better results than the limestone material, the coarse material gave lower results in the grain size distribution than the fine material, in the briquettes prepared with Marshall rammer, the limestone material had more breaks than the basalt material and that this situation changed the gradation. Dense grade asphalt mixture, which has the same maximum grain size and nominal maximum grain size and was prepared by taking the average of the specification limits, showed better performance in terms of stability and yield than stone mastic asphalt.
