Özet (EN)
The aim of this thesis is to conduct research on air flow control valves and test methods used in central ventilation systems, also as well as to trying test methods to develop an innovative air flow control valve, to transfer the results to application and to bring to the literature. For this purposes, firstly, patents related to air flow control valves were examined. The design parameters that affect the performance of the air flow control valves have been determined. The design parameters of the air flow control valve; the conical structure of the air flow control valve was determined as the number of openings and the air flow slot angle. On the other hand, regarding the hood design; the effects of the air-directing guide added to the hood on the hood performance were investigated. The central ventilation system hood and air flow control valve, which were created as a result of design optimizations, were evaluated in terms of capture velocity, central system pressure required for flow rate and odour performance under different flow conditions. In addition, odour capture performance in accordance with the European standard was simulated by numerical analysis of real environment experiments. A full scale kitchen and hood mounted air flow control valve is modeled for numerical analysis. The analyzes simulate the capture of a mixture of water vapor and methyl ethyl ketone heated by the cooker by the air flow control valve. Analysis results were examined in terms of capture rate, odour capture performance, turbulence formation and system pressure required for flow. ANSYS Fluent 19.0 software, which is a computational fluid dynamics software, was used in numerical studies. The standard 𝑘–𝜔 SST turbulence model, which describes the motion of fluids for multiphase flows, was used in the analyses. Numerical analyzes have been confirmed by experimental studies. Energy consumption experiments were carried out with the innovative air flow control valve developed as a result of the studies. Thanks to the innovative air flow control valve developed, performance increase has been achieved and a patent application has been made for the air flow control valve design developed within the scope of the thesis.
