Abstract (EN)

Canopy is a part of passenger boarding bridge that perfectly attaches to the aircraft body allowing ‎passengers to enter and exit the aircraft safely and comfortably without being affected by the ‎external environment. Canopy have important features such as providing a smooth transition for ‎passage, automatically adjusting the ground level to the approaching aircraft, and sealing the interiors.‎ There are no flexible, user-oriented, aesthetically appealing, innovative and nationally produced ‎passenger boarding bridge canopies to meet current needs in the market. A systematic design process ‎was carried out using a systematic design approach of Pahl and Beitz.‎ The process progressed in the form of problem identification, formulating (function diagram), creating ‎options and selection. The new design was intended to be cost-effective, durable and responsive. ‎New aircraft canopy was designed to combine all known advantages and avoid shortcomings of ‎current models in the market. A new design solution to reduce the cost was determined during a ‎conceptual design phase. Afterwards, canopy parts were reviewed and structured in terms of clarity, ‎simplicity and safety rules during a forming design phase. CAD programs was used for parts and ‎assembly modeling, optimization, mechanical and kinematic analysis.‎
