A research on the relationship between airline business models and passenger expenditures: Antalya airport

After the liberalization in the airline industry, new airline companies and new business models have emerged. Different business models have spawned different service levels. The development of the airline industry has also been effective in the growth of tourism. While making their vacation plans, tourists also have to decide which airline business they will travel with. In this study, the tourist center of Turkey's largest tourism company, which they prefer to spend their airline in Antalya, aims to examine the relationship between business models. In addition, it is aimed to investigate the effects of the pandemic on tourism activities due to the Covid-19 pandemic at the time of the research and to determine the most important factors that affect the travel destination choices of tourists coming to Antalya. The research data were collected by the survey method conducted for 448 passengers using Antalya Airport. The data were analyzed using the SPSS program. As a result of the study, although there were significant differences between package tour expenditures and accommodation expenditures among airline business models, no significant differences were encountered in non-accommodation expenditure averages. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, approximately one third of tourists stated that they do not participate in tourist activities. The possibilities and image of the destination, price-quality and political factors have been identified as the most important factors affecting the choice of travel destination by tourists.
