The evaluation of the life studies course teaching program based on teachers' views in terms of developing ethical awareness

The purpose of this study is to determine the views of the primary school teachers, acquisitions, personal qualities and values, and life skills related to the ethics in Life Studies Course Teaching Program regarding to the adequacy of ethical awareness acquisition. The working group of this study is consisted of 437 primary school teachers who teach 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades, working in central town of Malatya.The study is a descriptive one in a survey methodology. The data has been gathered by means of a questionnaire developed by the researcher. In the first part of the questionnaire, there are three questions relating personal qualities of primary school teachers. In the second part, there are 23 questions which are prepared according to evaluation based on the views of primary school teachers related to the adequacy of ethical awareness acquisition of Life Studies Course Teaching Program. For data analysis, SPSS package was used and frequency, percentage analysis and chi-square analysis was applied. To decide whether there is a significant relationship between variables, .05 significance level was accepted.According to the result of this study, in findings owning to the first question of the purpose of the study, most of the primary teachers found that Life Studies Course Teaching Program is adequate in terms of the ethical awareness acquisition. In findings owning to the second question of the purpose of the study, in Life Studies Course Teaching Program, acquisitions, personal qualities and values, and life skills related to the ethics regarding to the adequacy of ethical awareness acquisition;?Most of the primary teachers having worked about 21 year and over in terms of in service life variable?Most of the teachers graduated from training Institute, education of two year degree/school of education status variable?Most of the second grade teachers in terms of the class being taught variablethink that is adequate. According to the result of the study, there are some suggestion to be worked on such as classroom activities to be used with the help of sample cases in order to gain students ethical awareness and the reasons why the teachers having fewer service life find the program inadequate.Key words: Ethic, life studis course, primary school, primary school teacher
