Abstract (EN)

One of the most prospective coal-bearing beds in Türkiye is located aroundBeypazarı. Many geological surveys have been made and are being continue toexploration for coal-bearing beds, which are discovered in previous years. Thisresearchs conducted in the context of ?The Exploration Project on Probable RawMaterials of Energy under Volcanics of Upper Miocene? from 1995 to 1998 byGeneral Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) revealed thatnorthern, northwestern and eastern parts of Beypazarı are dominated by volcanicrocks of Upper Miocene. Hırka Formation, which was deposited in lacustrine andfluvial environments and observed locally as underlying volcanic rocks, bears lignitebeds. Because many of the fields, which are situated around Beypazarı- Kabalar,Mençeler Yayla, Haydarlar, are covered by volcanic rocks, it is aimed to informthickness, characteristics and extension of lignite beds, focused on the determinationof prospective areas in these fields. A geological survey of about 150 km2 isconducted on 1/25.000 scale BOLU-H27 b3-b4 and BOLU-H27 c1-c2 sheets. Keywords: Beypazarı, Coal-bearing beds, Volcanic rocks of Upper Miocene, HırkaFormation
