Use of ready-made industrial ceramic products as art objects: Ceramic dolls

In the 18th century, with the Industrial Revolution, the ceramic industry, entered a development process, and industrial ceramic products emerged as a result of the processing of ceramic raw metarials. In parallel with this, ready-made industrial ceramic products, which facilitate human life, have begun to be used as art objects in contemporary ceramic art by taking various forms with new artistic understandings, apart from their own purpose of use. In this context, the use of ready-made industrial ceramic products as art objects has started to take place in dolls as a subject. When we look at the world geographies, all kinds of human-shaped figures made of toys, ceramics and different materials for artistic and collection purposes are described as "dolls" and have taken their place as art dolls in the world in the 20th century. When the samples from the world's dolls were examined, it was seen that each of them reflected the belief and cultural codes of the geography they belonged to. Ceramic (terracotta) dolls, the first examples of which were encountered in Antiquity, have always been in the field of interest of artists in today's contemporary ceramic art and have also been a means of expression in their works. In the first part of the thesis, which consists of three main parts; industrial ceramic products were researched, and examples of the works of artists who used ready-made industrial ceramic produsts as a means of artistic expression in contemporary ceramic art were examined. In the second part; examples from world dolls are included and the historical process of ceramic doll is investigated. The examples of works of artists who produce ceramic dolls by using free-forming and ready-made industrial ceramic pieces in contemporary ceramic art were examined. In the third part of the research scope; The topics related to ceramic dolls, which also constitute the main subject of the thesis, were selected and their applications were carried out. In the application phase, biscuit-fired products were preferred and original studies were revealed and the application process and result were explained.
