Conflicts between global brands and apparel manufacturers in the implementation of corporate sustainability in the apparel industry

Abstract (EN)

Apparel industry is one of the industry branches which is of great importance for achieving global sustainability goals. In this industry, there are various duties that fall on all stakeholders in terms of implementation of sustainability. The parties should make the necessary improvements in line with global targets in social, environmental and economic dimensions. However, there are some disagreements and conflicts in terms of the perception and implementation of sustainability among parties. The purpose of this study is to determine the disagreements and conflicts between the global brands and the apparel manufacturers. For this purpose, semi-structured interview technique was used to identify the parties' perspectives in the context of sustainability. As a result of the interviews, the conflicts between the parties were determined and the findings were presented under 12 headings. The findings of the research point to the necessity for brands and suppliers to speak the same language, to understand each other, to cooperate with each other, to resolve the problems experienced, to resolve the dilemmas and conflicts on a common ground in accordance with the interests of both parties in order to fully implement sustainability in the apparel industry.
