A development model proposal for process information cards to increase production quality in ready to wear sector

It is thought that defining dress properties, measurements, details with various symbols and drawing techniques is a vital point in Ready-to-Wear Industry, so products could be manufactured in an appropriate way with respect to design specifications, quality criteria and fashion/brand strategies, and support fast and correct communication in production progress.According to ready-to-wear enterprises, a good knowledge of geometric principles of technical drawing, preparing well-designed patterns, trying clothes on and preparing sewing orders of the dress are agreed as requirements. Those technical drawings that are used for a flawless and fast production are actually a progress of calculating and usage of a two dimensional geometric form to prepare a dress of three dimensions.Production in ready-to-wear industry is a process, which relies on integrated working of different portions of production. It is right to say that diminishing or eliminating errors, which arise from model design, planning, cutting, and sewing, is related with preparation of technical details by a good documentation.A good knowledge of technical drawing principles, practical ability, technical drawing tools familiarity are important for optimizing and simplifying both design and production processes.One of the major objectives of this research is well preparation of production procedures within technical drawing principles and detailing processes by using both illustrations and prescriptions, in order to maximize product quality and production efficiency in ready-to-wear enterprises. Parallel to the results of the study, some suggestions are made for ready-to-wear enterprises; there also a suggestion of application is made within findings reached for a sample product (Female Trousers).In this research, usage status of information cards, methods of transmitting production information to the workers, problems that are experienced within the existing methods, departments that use the process information cards, departments that prepare these cards, reasons of not using those cards in some enterprises are tried to be identified within ready-to-wear clothing enterprises? point of view.The universe of this research consists of 2401 enterprises in Istanbul and 108 enterprises in Ankara, which are registered to The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey and are in ready-to-wear industry.Sample space of this research is randomly selected enterprises that accepted to involve and reply for the questionnaires. Those are total 110 enterprises, 69 of which are producing in Istanbul and the rest 41 are in Ankara.Within the contents of this study, initially, the theoretical base of technical drawing is researched. Also, in ready-to-wear industry, process definitions and the essence of technical drawing used definitions, the importance of production in ready to-wear industry, concepts of production/efficiency and production/quality relationships are tried to be analyzed.Research shows us that process-information cards are both used and not used by enterprises in ready-to-wear industry. Thus, questionnaires are re-designed separately for these groups of enterprises. Problems that occurred through the application, communication tools that are used and their usage problems tried to be determined. The causes of not using those process cards, which are actually used in identifying each step of production in many production industries, are tried to be analyzed. Also required technical documents are collected from those enterprises who accept to share.Findings of the data which are collected from sample space of involving enterprises are examined. Tables in this document show us the usage situation of these enterprises, transmitting methods of production information to the workers, the problems they experience within methods, departments of productions that mostly use those process-information cards, departments that prepare those cards, reasons of not using those cards. Those tables are created through documentary examination with statistical data analysis.With the help of the results, some suggestions are made for ready-to-wear enterprises, and also a production application suggestion for a sample dress is developed.
