Abstract (EN)

In Turkish literature, the place where literary genres first came to life was undoubtedly magazines. Over time, in addition to magazines covering all literary genres, genre-specific magazines were also published, and story magazines, the first of which was Resimli Hikâye (1927), also emerged. Hece Öykü magazine also began publication in 2004. Our thesis aims to determine the development of Turkish short story writing, focusing on issues 36-101 of Hece Öykü magazine, published between 2010 and 2020. Hece Öykü is the longest-running short story magazine published to date, and among the four currently published short story magazines, it stands out in terms of its institutional nature and its author roster. However, to date, no comprehensive scholarly study has been conducted to evaluate Hece Öykü's place in Turkish short story writing, other than short story criticism. In this respect, our study possesses unique value. Our study indexed all texts in relevant issues of Hece Öykü magazine, then presented a snapshot of Turkish short story writing based on ten stories from the five most published short story writers. The stories were analyzed in terms of theme and structure. Themes such as existential problems, loneliness, death, sadness, lovelessness, political perspective, fear, and alienation were identified in the stories covered in Hece Öykü magazine. The authors included both male and female protagonists in their stories. Objects also served as subjects. In light of these, Hece Öykü has a rich structure in terms of quality among the short story magazines published before and after 2004. It is a distinguished publication that preserves the identity of short story magazines in our literary history. Anahtar Kelimeler: Hece Öykü, story, story journal.
