Abstract (EN)

Dâvûd Antâkî is an Ottoman scientist who lived in XVIth century and considered among famous and reputable scholars of his era. Beside his main identity as a physician, he worked in different areas such as veterinary, pharmacy, logic, philosophy, astronomy, engineering, algebra, theology and literature. As he was blind from birth, he was called "Darîr" and because of his knowledge, he was called "Basîr" which means the person who can see through the eyes of heart. He has given many works especially in medicine and pharmacy and has gained great fame with these publications. Dâvûd Antâkî's publications can be found in many countries of the world; a significant amount of them can be found in libraries of Turkey. His most important work called 'Tezkiretü üli'l-elbâb ve'l câmi' li'l- 'acebi'l-'uccâb', also shortly called 'Tezkire -i Dâvûd '. The medical compendium by Dâvûd Antâkî with the elaborate title Nüzhetü'l- Ezhân fi İslâhi'l-Ebdân (Delight of the minds in the improvement of the bodies) is not generally as well-known as his very popular Tezkire is another important medical work of him. This medical manuscript Nüzhet is a systematic work on medicine, with an introduction, seven chapters, and a conclusion. One of the 19 manuscript copies remaining today belongs to the Prof. Dr. İlter Uzel's personal library. This worn and partially missing copy includes a second long and integrated medical text in its margin spaces, which makes the book original.
