Evaluation of the level of knowledge among physicians about prone cardio pulmonary resuscitation

INTRODUCTION: Prone CPR is a form of intervention whose importance has increased even more recently with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is an intervention type that stands out in the management of the arrest that develops in intubated patients who are followed in the prone position or in patients operated in the prone position. It is important that physicians working in emergency departments and intensive care units, where intubated patients are followed, should be particularly informed about this issue. In this study, it was aimed to determine the level of knowledge of emergency and intensive care physicians on this issue. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our study is a questionnaire study aimed at the participation of physicians working in Ankara City Hospital Emergency Service and Intensive Care between December 2020-March 2021. A total of 24 questionnaires were directed to the participants, 18 of which question demographic information and education status, and 6 of them measure theoretical knowledge. The analysis of the data was performed in IBM SPSS 16.0 for Windows program and the significance value was accepted as p <0.05. RESULTS: A total of 112 physicians participated in the study. Participant distribution was as 85 assistant physicians and 27 specialist physicians and education staff. 101 of the participants work in the emergency department while 11 work in the intensive care unit. When the answers given were examined, it was seen that the majority of the participants had not received training on Prone CPR before and did not perform prone CPR. CONCLUSION: It was found that emergency medicine and intensive care physicians do not have sufficient knowledge about prone CPR. The situation of these two departments of physicians who are likely to encounter Prone CPR should be taken into consideration in future training programs, curriculum changes and minor training processes.
