DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF HELICALLY STRUCTURED SWITCHEDRELUCTANCE MOTOR (HS-SRM)(PhD Thesis)Ahmet FENERC OĞLUGAZI UNIVERSITYINSTITUTE OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYSeptember 2006ABSTRACTIn this study, both rotor and stator (where the rotor itself is the actuator of adirect drive application) of traditional Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) havebeen helically structured (HS) and electrical and magnetic quantities(inductance, resistance, efficiency, forces acting on the rotor, ovalising forcesacting on the stator and generated torques) of the HS-SRM obtained fromanalytical and predicted by finite element method (Ansoft Maxwell 3D) havebeen compared to the traditional straight rotor and stator SRM with same size. The traditional equations developed for the straight SRM have been modifiedfor considering the helicity. Superiority to have reduced the ovalising forcescausing acoustic noise (the magnitude of the force, Fx tending to ovalise thestator and causing noise has reduced from 4100 N to 3660 N with 15 A phaseexcitation for 45º helical turn angle HS-SRM) has accompanied the helicalstructure is less efficient (eg. while 2 kW straight SRM has 94% efficiency, theHS-SRM with β = 45° has a reduced efficiency of 88%). Where the rotor itselfis considered as a direct drive actuator application, HS-SRM looks an attractivechoice with a superiority of eliminating a separate driver motor, couplings andgear boxes.Science Code : 703.3.012Key Words : SRM, helically structured SRM, skewing, direct drivePage Number : 188Adviser : Assoc.
