Abstract (EN)

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate whether itching affects patient comfort in uremic patients receiving hemodialysis treatment or not. Materials and Method: This research is a descriptive cross-sectional study. It was carried out patients receiving hemodialysis treatment (n=191) or not (n=106) between October and November 2017. The research data were obtained by the Patient Identification Form and the General Comfort Scale For the evaluation of the data, numbers, percentage t-test, ANOVA variance analysis and correlation analysis were performed Results: It was determined that 50.8% of the patients receiving hemodialysis treatment and 40.6% of the patients did not receiving hemodialysis treatment, and the itching complaint and the itching complaint of patients was reflected as the insomnia in both groups (24.6%, 20.8% respectively). Overall comfort score was 3.07 ± 0.29 in the patients receiving hemodialysis treatment and 2.97 ± 0.25 in patients did not receiving hemodialysis treatment, and this difference was statistically significant. It was found that 17.8% of the patients receiving hemodialysis treatment experienced anger due to itching, 17.0% of the patients did not receiving hemodialysis treatment experienced fatigue due to itching, and the maximum daily comfort of the itch was reflected as insomnia (24.6%, 20.8%, respectively) in both groups. Conclusion: It was determined that the complaint of pruritus was more frequent in hemodialysis receiving hemodialysis treatment areas and affected daily comfort in the negative direction.
