Abstract (EN)

The Effect of Self-Care Supported Motivational Interviewing on Patients' Self-Care Strength and Disease Adjustment in Patients Receiving Hemodialysis Treatment Aim: The study was conducted to determine the effect of self-care supported motivational interviewing on patients receiving hemodialysis treatment on self-care power, disease compliance and metabolic variables. Material and Method: The study was planned using a randomized controlled trial design. The study was completed with 77 patients (40 experiments, 37 controls) who met the research criteria and volunteered to participate in the study. In the collection of data; Personal Information Form, Self-Care Strength Scale (ÖBGÖ), Chronic Disease Adjustment Scale (KHUÖ) and Patient-Specific Metabolic Variables Form were used. Results: It was determined that the pre-test mean KHUÖ scores before the motivational interview were similar in the experimental and control groups (p>0.05), and the mean KHUÖ scores of the experimental group (posttest and follow-up test) after the motivational interview showed a significant increase compared to the control group (p<0.05). In all follow-ups, it was observed that the total mean scores of ÖBGÖ were significantly different between the two groups (p<0.05). In comparisons within the group, the difference between the pretest, posttest, and follow-up test KHUÖ and ÖBGÖ total score averages of the patients in the experimental group changed significantly (p<0.05), but only the pretest, posttest, and follow-up test KHUÖ total score of the patients in the control group. It was found that the difference between the mean scores was significant (p<0.05), and the difference between the total mean scores of ÖBGÖ was not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion: These results showed that the motivational interview technique is an effective method in increasing the patients' adaptation to chronic disease and their self-care power. It was suggested that longer-term studies should be conducted in hemodialysis patients.
