Examination of the relationship between COVID-19 fear, occupational burnout and gratitude in nurses

Abstract (EN)

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between fear of Covid-19, professional burnout and gratitude in hospital nurses. Method: The population of the study consisted of 770 nurses working at Elazig Fethi Sekin City Hospital. In order to determine the sample of the research, the sample size of the known universe was calculated as 257. Data were collected between February 2021 and April 2021 using the Introductory Information Form, the Covid-19 Fear Scale, the Occupational Fatigue Burnout Recovery Scale, and the Gratitude Scale. SPSS package program was used in the analysis of the data. Significance level was taken as p<0.05. Finding: The total score of the participants on the fear of Covid-19 scale was 16.56±6.41, and the total score of the gratitude scale was 93.85±12.95. The mean score of the 'chronic fatigue' sub-dimension of MYTTS was 58.2±27.12, the mean score of the 'acute fatigue' sub-dimension was 64.68±23.24, and the mean score of the 'recovery' sub-dimension was 43.1±19.31. There was a statistically significant difference between fear of Covid-19 and chronic fatigue (r=0.165; p=0.008), acute fatigue (r=0.133; p=0.033) and recovery (r=-0.137; p=0.028) sub-dimension scores of MYTTÖ. relationship was found. There was a statistically significant difference between the feeling of gratitude and recovery from the sub-dimensions of MRTS (r=0.231; p p<0.001), chronic fatigue (r=-0.191; p=0.002) and acute fatigue (r=-0.15; p=0.016). relationship was found. There was no statistical relationship between fear of Covid-19 and feelings of gratitude (p=0.115). Result: Conclusion: According to the results of the research findings, the fear of Covid-19 was low, the sense of gratitude was high, occupational fatigue was moderate/high, and recovery was low/moderate in nurses. As the fear of Covid-19 increased in nurses, occupational fatigue increased and recovery decreased. As the feeling of gratitude increased, occupational fatigue decreased and recovery increased. No relationship was found between fear of Covid-19 and feelings of gratitude.
