Determination of remarks of nurses related to usage of physical examination methods

Aim: Research was done with the aim of determining remarks of nurses working in public hospitals in Antalya province about using physical examination as descriptive. Method: Research was done with 606 nurses working in adult clinic and intensive care units in between 17th of July 2017 and 28th of February 2018. Data was gathered with questionnaire form of "Remarks of Nurses Related to Usage of Physical Examination Methods". Data was analysed on SPSS packaged software; findings were listed with number and percentage, chi-square test on which compares remarks of mutants related to usage physical examination methods. Findings: 64.69% of nurses taking part in research have bachelor's degree and 51.30% of them are pleased with nursing profession. 38.1% of nurses who work in Akdeniz University Hospital, 39.20% of them work in surgery departments. Rate of nurses being educated in the process of nursing training about physical examination methods is 82.51%, rate of those who are in service training is 28.71%. Physical examination methods mostly used by nurses are palpation (36.50%) and inspection (26.90%). 88.10% of the nurses agree with the statement "Physical examination methods are an important tool for providing information for the clinical situation of the patient". There is a statically significant correlation between institutions and departments where nurses work, the occupational satisfaction status, physical examination methods during nursing education, in- service training and opinions on the use of physical examination methods. Conclusion: Nurses often use palpation and inspection methods and know that the use of the physical examination method is beneficial for the patient. Nurses having bachelor degrees and high professional satisfaction status, evaluate the use of physical examination methods from aspect of their own roles. Nurses those working in intensive care units and at the Akdeniz University Hospital, are a group to be supported on the use of physical examination methods.
