Investigation of the relationships between psychological resilience, occupational commitment and workload perceptions of nurses

Aim: The study was conducted with the aim of investigating the relationships between psychological resilience, occupational commitment and workload perceptions of nurses. Method: The study population of this correlational research consisted of all nurses working in a training and research hospital. In the study, no sample selection method was used, and nurses who agreed to participate voluntarily were included in the study. The study data were collected using the Personal Data Form, Psychological Resilience Scale, and the Occupational Commitment Scale by distributing and retrieving the questionnaires. In the data analysis, numbers, percentiles, standard deviation, and median statistical analysis, t-test and One-Way Analysis of Variance for parametric test assumptions, and Mann Whitney-U test and Kruskal Wallis H test was used for non-parametric assumptions, and Correlation Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling were used to test the relationships between the variables. Results: Approximately half of the nurses surveyed were female in the 31-40 age group, and most of them were married and had a bachelor's degree. The mean total scores of the nurses were 73.96±10.72 in the psychological resilience scale, and 66.18±11.58 in the occupational commitment scale. The mean workload perception score of the nurses was 8.11±1.84. Nurses' psychological resilience levels were found to differ according to the working units and the status of having children (p<0.05, p<0.01), and their occupational commitment levels were found to differ according to the working unit, position, adequacy of the number of nurses in the service, and the working years in the hospital (p<0.05, p<0.01). Conclusion: The level of psychological resilience of nurses was found to be moderately high, their level of occupational commitment was moderate, and their perception of workload was found to be high. According to the Structural Equation Model, a positive and significant relationship was found between resilience and professional commitment, and negative and significant correlations were found between resilience and workload perception and professional commitment and workload perception.
