Effect of training on nurses' knowledge and skills regarding subcutaneous injection application

Aim: The aim of this study is to identify the lack of knowledge about SC injection application of nurses and to examine the effectiveness of the training given to increase their knowledge, skills in this direction. Material and Method: The research is an experimental study in a randomized controlled pre-test-past test pattern. The universe of the study was made up of 42 nurses working in a public hospital in Afyonkarahisar province (intervention group=21, control group=21). The intervention group was trained in the application of SC injection, no attempt was made to the control group. The data was collected as a result of three follow-ups. The follow-ups were conducted by two observers. In the first follow-up, the questionnaire containing information recommendations of SC injection applications of nurses, the questionnaire with post-training skill checklist and information recommendations given to nurses about applying SC injections in the second follow-up, and in the third follow-up forms containing skill checklist and information recommendations were used. Results: Statistically significant difference was determined between the mean scares pre-training (Z=-2,231, p=0,026), post-training (Z=-5,590, p=0,000) and 1 month after training (Z=-4,712, p=0,000) of nurses in the intervention and control group. A statistically significant difference in the knowledge scores of the nurses in the intervention and control group according to their training time was found (p<0.05). Conclusions: The knowledge and skills of the nurses who received training in SC injection application increased after the training.
