Abstract (EN)

Nurses can reflect their own values and attitudes to their behaviors while fulfilling their roles to protect and improve the health of the individual/society. Their gender role stereotypes and misconceptions/myths about health can be reflected in the service of nurses, and this may adversely affect public health. In societies where sexuality is not talked about comfortably and the individual is not adequately educated about sexuality, sexual myths also become widespread and appear as social norms. In traditional societies, women's gender role stereotypes are also more traditional and these features can increase the belief in myths accepted as social norms. In this context, this study is related to the gender roles of nurses . The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between attitudes and sexual myths . Thus, it is thought that the awareness of nurses on the subject will increase and it will contribute to the handling of nursing services from this perspective. The population of the study consisted of 322 nurses working in Başkent University Ankara Hospital and its affiliated units. 220 nurses formed the sample of the study. Data were collected with three separate forms . The first form of the nurses demographic with information and literature studies and developed a questionnaire, the second form in order to determine their attitudes toward gender roles of students in university education developed by the Zeyneloğlu in 2008, "Gender Roles Attitude Scale" (TCRTÖ), the third form in the Golbasi and The "Sexual Myths Scale" (CME), which was developed by his colleagues (2016) and whose validity and reliability studies were conducted by the same people, is included. The data collection form was filled by the participants themselves. Statistical analyzes SPSS (IBM SPSS Statistics 24) program " Independent Sample -t" test (t-table value), "Mann- Whitney U" test (Z-table value), " Kruskal -Wallis H" (χ2-table value) analyzed using tests. It was determined that the mean age of the nurses was 29.80±7.91 (years), 93.6% were female and 57.3% were undergraduate graduates. Nurses from tcrtö received a total average score of 161.13 ± 20.25 ( from tcrtö highest score taken: 190) and the CMO total score mean is 56.86 ± 20.25 ( from CMO highest score taken: 132). In the study, it was seen that women's attitudes towards gender roles were more egalitarian than men and that men's sexual myths were higher. In addition, it was determined that the attitudes of undergraduate nurses towards gender roles were more egalitarian. A negative, weak and statistically significant relationship was found between the nurses' responses to the scales, between the CRTS subdimension scores and the CME scale sub-dimension scores (p<0.05). This result was found to be significant in terms of showing that nurses who have an egalitarian attitude in terms of gender roles believe less in sexual myths. In line with these results, it is recommended that the subject be integrated into formal education and in-service training programs , and this subject should be discussed with different dimensions and applied to larger sample groups in order to increase nurses' awareness of the subject and to ensure that nursing services are handled from this perspective.
