Evaluation of nurses' attempts of care bundle of preventing urinary tract infections

This research was planned in order to study the views and opinions of nurses working in the intensive care unit about the care package and to identify barriers for nurses' use of the urinary catheter care package. In the research in which the phenomenological design which is one of the qualitative research methods was used,maximum diversity sampling which is one of the purposive sampling methods was used. The sample of the study consisted of 30 nurses who voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. Research data were collected between February-March 2020 by using individual in-depth interviews and observation techniques. Content analysis was used in the analysis of the interview data. For the analysis of the observation data, the Cohen's Kappa test was used to determine the frequency and the agreement between the two observers. In the content analysis made after the interviews,including practices regarding the care package parameters, risk factors for USE, common infections in the intensive care unit, views on the care package(positive-negative), factors preventing use and suggestions, seven (7) themes and these nine (9) sub-themes were obtained from the themes. With this research, it was determined that that the care package practice used for the prevention of urinary tract infections were used by most of nurses, where most of the nurses using the care package have positive views in terms of nurses and patients,that the nurses who do not use the package have not heard of the package before and did not use the application because the hospital management did not transmit this application and that the nurses who knew about this application did not use the application for preconceptions. In addition, suggestions were made that the care package should be standardized by each user, the nurses should be trained on this subject, the content of the care package should be expanded and detailed, and components related to infection control should be added to the care package parameters.
