The effectiveness of web-based education given to nursing students in pediatric clinics for infection prevention

This study was carried out to eliminate the lack of knowledge of nursing students on prevention of infection in pediatric clinics and to evaluate the effectiveness of the web-based infection prevention education program. The study was conducted as a quasi-experimental pre-post test un-matched group model. The sample of the study consisted of 35 volunteer students who took the internship course of pediatric Nursing. The data were collected with the Socio-Demographic Data Collection Form and the Form for Measuring Students' Knowledge Levels on Infection Prevention Methods developed by the researchers. In the evaluation of the data, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon test, regression analysis were used and, power and effect size were calculated based on the regression analysis. While the pre-test score of the intervention group was 34.31+2.08, the post-test score was 36.56+1.34. The difference between the pretest-posttest mean scores of the intervention group was statistically significant (p<0.05). The pre-test score of the control group was 33.12+5.92, while the post-test score was 33.91+6.46. The difference between the pretest-posttest mean scores of the control group was not statistically significant (p>0.05). As a result of the regression analysis, it was determined that education significantly predicted the knowledge score of the students (p<0.05). It was determined that the education explained 13.1% of the knowledge score. According to the regression analysis, the power of the study was 53% and the effect size was 0.15. As a result, the infection prevention education given to nursing students increased the knowledge level of the students.
