Examination of the relationship between academic self-efficacy and academic motivation levels of nursing students and education methods

Various education methods are employed undergraduate nursing programs in Turkey. The study was conducted in the cross-sectional way with the aim of examining the relationship between academic self-efficacy and academic motivation levels of nursing students and education methods. The study involved the graduate nursing students from the Faculty of Health Sciences of Gaziantep University (GAÜN) employing integrated education, from the Faculty of Health Sciences of Erciyes University employing modular education and from the Health College of Sütçü İmam University employing classical education in the fall semester in 2017-2018 academic year. After each university was handled as a layer through the stratification sampling method, the number of samples was determined in proportion to the weight of each layer. 314 students from GAUN (38.8 %), 371 students from EU (45.8 %) and 125 students from SİU (15.4 %) were involved in the study. The data was obtained through the descriptive characteristics form, academic motivation and academic self-efficacy scale. As a result of the analysis, the academic motivation total score of the students studying in the classical education system was found to be significantly higher than the students studying in the integrated education system. When the average of self-transcendence is compared; the average of students studying in the classical education system was found to be significantly higher than the students studying in the modular education system. As to the discovery averages, the average of students studying in the classical education and integrated education system was significantly higher than the students studying in the modular education system (p <0.05). As a conclusion, while the three different education models have no influence on the students' academic self-efficacy, they had influence on the academic motivation, self-transcendence and discovery levels of the students.
