Determining the time management skills of nursing students

This descriptive study was carried out so as to determine the time management skills of nursings tudents. 593 volunteer students who were studying at Çukurova University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nursing participated in the study. In the study, the Personal Information Form which was prepared by there searcher and five-point Likert scale Time Management Inventory that was developed by Brittonand Tesser in 1991 were used. The statistical analysis of the data of the study was performed by using SPSS 23.0 package programme. The data was evaluated through Mann Whitney U, Kruskal Wallis, Bonferroni tests and Post Hoc analysis. It was determined that the meanage of the students who participated in the study was 20.63±1.69, 76.1 % of the participants were female and 83% of them were graduates of Anatolian High Schools. The students' means of total scale and sub-scale scores of Time Management Inventory was found 84.37±12.43. It was 48.18±10.6 in the sub-dimension of Time Planning, 22.45±3.48 in the sub-dimension of Time Attitudes and 13.73±2.67 in the sub-dimension of Time Consumers. There liability coefficient of the scale in the study was found as 0.82. It was also revealed that the time management skills of the students were highly reliable in the dimension of total scale and in the sub-dimension of Time Planning while they were quite reliable in the sub-dimensions of Time Attitudes and Time Consumers. The results of the study presented that the senior students who were 21 years old or over and who were living with their families managed their time better. It was found out that the female students avoided more from time consumers than the male students did. According to these results, it can be recommended to provide students with trainings to improve their time management skills and consultancy service by instructors. It is also suggested to cater the students with a role model.
