The subject-object relationship in Henri Bergson

The main objective of this thesis, titled "The Subject-Object Relationship in Bergson," is to reveal how Bergson's philosophy differs from traditional schools of thought from a philosophical perspective, based on the relationship between subject and object in Bergson's philosophy. Since the structure of existence in Bergson's philosophy is expressed as a continuous becoming, the position of the subject, which he defines as the self, within this structure of existence and how the subject realizes its existence in unity with the object are important from the perspective of the history of philosophy. In this realm of reality, where there is constant becoming and change, the question arises as to what it is that elevates humans to the position of subject. This study attempts to examine this issue in detail through Bergson's multi-layered conception of the subject. Henri Bergson's philosophy centers on the concepts of time, intuition, memory, perception, and consciousness. In this context, the relationship between subject and object is also shaped by these concepts. In the first section of the study, general information about Bergson's life and works is provided as a basis for our examination. In the second section, while discussing why the relationship between subject and object has been a problematic issue in the history of philosophy, Bergson's position on this issue and its nature in his philosophy are evaluated. In the third section, the concepts of subject and object are analyzed separately to explain how Bergson described the subject-object relationship arising from his understanding of existence.
