Abstract (EN)
In this study we have examined how Kâmuran Şipal had translated into Turkish the sayings, similes, and repetitions in the story ?Siddhartha? by the famous German author Hermann Hesse of German Literature. The said expressions play an important role in bringing to the fore the aesthetic and artistic values of the literary texts. Therefore, in translating these expressions to the target language they must be translated into expressions of equivalent value in that language. Since expressions, similes and repetitions are the linguistic elements unique to a culture, the translator, at times find it difficult to translate them and may cause the artistic and aesthetic value of the original text to be lost. In this study, we have tried to determine the attitude and translation mentality of the translator in translating these expressions through the objective criticism method. Furthermore, in this study we have emphasized the reasons how these problems in translation came about.
