In the process of design and creation, certain techniques have been used, which have assisted artists in their creative processes. Design elements and principles serve the artist's purpose and have become a tool shared in the process of designing works of art, not just for designers. The structures that constitute the visual foundation of any design are taught theoretically and practically in institutions that provide education in fine arts. One of the design principles, the principle of contrast, has become indispensable in the design process of sculpture due to its dominant overall structure. The principle of contrast is in direct communication with other principles and elements and is in a guiding position for them. Therefore, the principle of contrast has been reflected as a concept in the works of artists. Various symbols, such as Yin Yang, apply the principle of contrast as both a concept and a principle. Contrast is a balancing factor for a design. When using two different units together, the principle of contrast provides stability to the design. In this study, art movements influencing design, design elements and principles, the connection of the principle of contrast with other elements and principles, and examinations of artist works have been researched, and sculptures have been produced based on the principle of contrast. The effect of the principle of contrast on sculpture has been evaluated. The principle of contrast, which opens up various fields for sculpture design, has been demonstrated with theoretical aspects and examples of applications.
