Abstract (EN)
Perception, which is the basis of the individual's interaction with his/her environment, is the beginning of communication in the field of art. As a phenomenon of volume, sculpture is perceived by the effects which its mass and surfaces evoked through addressing the senses of the audience. In this thesis, surfaces that are the first contact with the perceptions in three-dimensional objects, effects on visual and tactile sensations and how surface qualities are reflected in perception are investigated. The surface is evaluated not only physically but also as a concept, and the opinions of various theorists and psychologists about surface and perception are included. The surface and perception definitions in the first part. In the second part being the evaluated through the art of sculpture perspective are also exemplified in historical process. The effects of the formal transformation that begin with modernism in the post-modernism periods are discussed. In the third section, how the enrichment of materials and technological developments affect the sculptural surface and the ways in which these surfaces are perceived are examined by the concepts that are considered as surfaces along with giving examples from the works of artists.
