Abstract (EN)
Although the poultry sector provides cheap protein and employment to the consumer, the amount of water to be used in poultry meat production is increasing. Hybrid reactor configurations are considered as an innovative method for the treatment of poultry industry wastewater containing high amounts of slowly biodegradable organic compounds by increasing mass transfer and surface reactions and for the complete oxidation of these organic pollutants. The sonophotocatalysis process, which is a combination of hybrid ultrasound and photocatalysis processes of wastewater treatment in the poultry industry, is applied for COD and O&G removal in operating conditions such as catalyst type, irradiation type, catalyst dosage, pH, H2O2, concentration and working time. Within the scope of the study, turkey slaughterhouse wastewater was also treated by photocatalysis method under different working conditions mentioned above. The treatment of chicken slaughterhouse wastewater by the hybrid sonophotocatalysis method was optimized by applying a response surface methodology based on the Taguchi method L36 orthogonal array. Photocatalytic degradation of turkey slaughterhouse effluent was optimized by applying a response surface methodology L16 test based on the Taguchi method. As a result, %54 COD removal and %99 O&G removal were achieved in chicken slaughterhouse wastewater under optimum conditions within the hybrid sonophotocatalysis process. With the photocatalysis process under optimum conditions, %62 COD removal was obtained from the turkey slaughterhouse wastewater. By using these methods, the economic cost is basically the catalyst, and by determining the optimum working conditions, both chemical and energy costs are saved.
