Abstract (EN)
The fourth century's famous scholars, Ibn Hibban and Ibn Adi are very important scholars because of their books on weak narrators. Their books on weak narrators came to the forefront with the number of narratives they contain and the evaluations of their predecessors and the methods they followed in making judgments about the narrators. This study, which aims to reveal the fourth century's narrator criticism through Ibn Hibban and Ibn Adi's books on weak narratives, has reached the following conclusions: Both scholars has three basic instruments in narrator criticism: using their predecessors' evaluations, gaining personal opinion about the narrators while met them, and making eveluations on hadiths that belonged those narrators. Among these, it is especially important to investigate the hadith narratives of the narrators. Narrator criticism performed in this century shows similar results with earlier term to demonstrate the consistency of the science of invalidation and rectification (jarh wa ta'dil) and consistency with the previous period. However, it is also seen that Ibn Hibban or Ibn Adi have a certain degree of different judgment not only among themselves but also in their predecessors. This difference can also be considered as indicative of the viability of the ijtihad mechanism in the science of invalidation and rectification. In the IV/ X. century, the narrator criticism is often based on a justification. In this respect, the IV/X. century, explained the unexplained invalidation and closeness evaluation about the narrators. The evaluation letters used in this period have two different tendencies. Accordingly, Ibn Hibban frequently used clear and short evaluation words, while Ibn Adi usually used expressions containing an analytical style. For this reason, the context in which the word is used becomes more important, especially in understanding the verdict of Ibn Adi regarding any of his narrations.
